Work Package 11: Training
Rationale: Knowledge is of little value until it is exploited. Dissemination of results to end-users is important, as is provision of practical training on how to exploit effectively this new knowledge. The SABRE training work package provided scientists with new skills to develop and re-focus animal breeding and production to deliver more sustainable breeding strategies.
To achieve the integration of activities at the European level, there is a need for:
- Facilitated exchanges between research partners on best practice (e.g. design of expression array studies)
- Dissemination of scientific skills and knowledge to the academic community and industry across the EU, especially the new Members States which are less well integrated into current activities
This combination of measures will help reduce European fragmentation, and provide a programme of training to benefit European science, animal agriculture and citizens.
Objectives for WP11 at the start of SABRE:
- Disseminate knowledge, provide practical training and spread best practice within SABRE
- Disseminate knowledge and provide practical training for the wider European Community, particularly new Member States
- Provide training for industry to ensure effective utilisation of new selection tools developed
- Provision of Early Stage Training to develop a new flow of skilled scientists
