 SABRE Industrial Workshops - Lelystad, Netherlands and Ljubljana, Slovenia (September 2010) Minimize

Two SABRE Industrial Workshops were held in Lelystad, Netherlands (2 & 3 of September 2010) and Ljubljana, Slovenia (13 & 14 September 2010)Please click here for a detailed programme.

SABRE “Cutting Edge Genomics for Sustainable Breeding” will conclude on the 30th of September 2010. To disseminate SABRE Project outcomes and related themes to breeding companies and related organisations these two-day workshops were held on these two occasions.

The workshops featured a series of presentations by keynote speakers and leading specialists in their fields which updated delegates on the latest animal genomics research, providing three principle sessions on genomic tools and methods that have commercial implications to industry;

  1. Genome Wide Selection
  2. MixBLUP
  3. Analysis of QTL’s, eQTL’s and Microarrays

Key note speakers and their topics included:

Lelystad

  • Professor Theo Meuwissen – Norwegian University of Life Sciences (1)
  • Dr Han Mulder/Dr Roel Veerkamp – ABGC of Wageningen UR Livestock Research, Netherlands (2)
  • Dr DJ de Koning – The Roslin Institute, University of Edinburgh, UK (3)

Ljubljana

In addition several case studies were reported across the workshops, topics included:

  • Epigenetics, Jean Paul Renard – Institute National de la Recherche Agronomique
  • Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) – SABRE (Demonstration study), Dr Elisabetta Giuffra – The Parco Tecnologico Padano (PTP)
  • Fertility, Dr Henri Woelders – Animal Sciences Group, University of Wageningen, Netherlands
