Partner 2 - Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique (INRA)
INRA is the major research institute in France in agronomic, environmental and food science research. It has a major activity in animal breeding, genetics, genomics and reproduction. The Institute has been involved in livestock genomics research for more than 15 years and led or participated in many EC funded genomics projects in livestock, poultry, or aquaculture. INRA has a number of experimental facilities with experienced staff and original strains, particularly more than 50 selected strains in 10 different species. Among the INRA contributions related to this project are several large QTL detection experiments in different species, the implementation of a large-scale marker-assisted selection programme with the dairy cattle industry, the development of bioinformatics tools (Narcisse, Iccare), the production of cDNA micro-arrays in four different species, and efficient procedures of cloning.
INRA developed a strong collaboration with the animal breeding industry in the framework of the Agenae consortium for enhancing genomic tools in research. It is leading the Network of Excellence "EADGENE" which is closely related to SABRE.
