Partner 5 - University of Aarhus Faculty of Agricultural Sciences (formerly Danish Institute of Agricultural Sciences (DIAS))

The University of Aarhus contributes to SABRE with the expertise and resources of four research groups:

The research group for “Molecular Genetics and Systems Biology” has a strong record in the mapping, identification and characterisation of genes and QTL segregating in farm animals and has lately been deeply involved in large scale genomics, including EST-projects, genomic sequencing project as well as functional genomics using cDNA- and oligo-based microarrays. The group has state of the art cleanroom-laboratories for working with microarray as well as equipment for both array construction and analysis. They have developed cDNA-arrays and oligo-panels for pigs being able to measure up to 27,000 different transcripts.

The group of “Biomarkers” runs state of the art cell sorting and proteom facilities with Maldi-TOF based high throughput, as well as Quadrupole-TOF based high resolution platforms, supported by independent Capillary- and Nano- scale LC systems and sample preparation robotics.

Researchers in the group “Population Genetics and Embryology” have made considerable contributions to develop a large-scale system for in-vitro embryo development in cattle with subsequent studies of the consequences of this system on the normality of such embryo’s further development.

Researchers in the group “Bioinformatics and Statistical Genetics” have made considerable contributions to develop and utilise statistical methods for general quantitative genetic analyses, gene mapping and fine mapping.
