Partner 8 - University of Cordoba (UCO)
UCO s a young university (founded in 1972) located in the South of Spain, into the Andalusia region. It has around twenty thousand students and 1500 teachers. Many different research groups with more than 150 researchers are involved in the Veterinary Faculty on animal health, animal breeding and conservation of animal genetics resources studies, with all of them including the genomic and proteomic approaches. The University of Cordoba in the Campus of Rabanales has two specialised services of Genomic and Proteomic with a complete set of tools for gene cloning and genetic analysis, for gene expression studies and for protein analysis. Particularly remarkable is the research on swine genetics variability developed by the group of “Molecular markers in domestic animals” of the Genetics Department. More than 60 papers in the Journal of Animal Immunogenetics and its involvement in Spanish and European genomic projects, including participation in EADGENE NoE prove the excellence of the group in swine genomics and immunogenetics.
UCO contribute to study differential gene expression of the swine immune system, genes on gut cells from healthy and Salmonella infected pigs and to discover novel candidate resistance genes to obtain animals genetically resistant to Salmonella.
