Partner 25 – Institute for Pig Genetics BV (IPG)
IPG is an independent (private) knowledge centre for scientific and ICT services for the improvement of existing breeding and AI programs in pigs and other species. The role of IPG in SABRE is dedicated to research and development with regard to selection against boar taint and development of software to implement balanced breeding. IPG works together with Wageningen University in high-throughput genotyping of markers and has performed a genome-wide scan for meat quality traits. Currently, SNPs are being developed for fine-mapping of specific QTL areas. A comprehensive database for pig genomic information PigAce (https://acedb.asg.wur.nl/) has been set up together with Wageningen University and is curated further by IPG. PigAce supports fine mapping activities, improves comparative mapping for the identification of candidate genes and surveys porcine QTL information. Furthermore IPG has developed together with other scientific partners an ISYS platform to compare genomic information across species (along the set up of ontology) based on public (web based) information. Concerning statistical analysis together with ASG/WUR and other research groups IPG is currently developing experience with the application of combined linkage and linkage disequilibrium analysis for fine mapping of QTL regions, while procedures for breeding value estimation are currently extended to include marker information from specific QTLs.
