Partner 30 – Jiangxi Agricultural University (JAU)
JAU is a governmental funded University with 16,000 BSc, MSc and PhD students at its campus. The key Laboratory for animal biotechnology of Jiangxi Province and the Ministry of Agriculture of China was jointly funded by the Ministry of Science and Technology of China (MOST), the Ministry of Agriculture of China and the Provincial Government of Jiangxi Province. The Laboratory employs 14 full time researchers and 30-40 MSc and PhD students, a 300 sow experimental pig farm and ~ US$2 million advanced experimental facilities for molecular biology research including ABI3100 and Microarray apparatus. The Laboratory has been mainly involved in the mapping and isolation of QTL and QTNs for the economically important traits in farm animals. It has constructed the Whole-China genomic DNA bank for aboriginal pig breeds with 71 breeds and 12,700 samples collected. The Laboratory has also built a very large scale pig resource family, crossed by White Duroc and Erhualian/MeiShan pigs with a total number of more than 10,000 F0, F1, F2 and F3 animals with detailed phenotypes for ~182 traits including growth/fatness, immunity/disease resistance, carcass/meat quality, circadian feed intake/genetic defects, bone structure/ coat colour, male and female fertility, behaviour traits such as sow aggression and libido et al.
