Partner 32 – China Agricultural University (CAU)

CAU is a leading agricultural education and research institution in China. State Key Laboratory for Agrobiotechnology is found in 1990 with aim to develop high technology in animal and plant breeding. In the last 10 years CAU has established high throughput platform relative genomics and transgenics. CAU has three resource populations; one for chicken, one for duck and the other for pig. More than 100 production traits recorded have been investigated in each population. Candidate genes and QTL influencing economical traits such as growth, reproduction and genetic resistance in pig and chicken have been identified. In addition, CAU has collected over 5,000 DNA samples from over 70 Chinese native pigs and this will be excellent resources for studying pig domestication, evolution and gene discovery. The University has also constructed its own BAC libraries for pig, chicken and panda. It has isolated over 200 microsatellites from duck and generated a duck genetic map based on these markers.
CAU is involved in SABRE in supplying the resource populations, DNA microarrays and DNA sampling.
